<<I don't see the legal equivilent of a colonial British ruling with that of the UN partition.>>
...So you don't see the legal equivalent of a mandate from the League of Nations and a Resolution form the UN?
...But let's stick to UN resolutions like #194 of Dec. 1948 - yale.edu
<<11. Resolves that the refugees wishing to return to their homes and live at peace with their neighbours should be permitted to do so at the earliest practicable date, and that compensation should be paid or the property of those choosing not to return and for loss of or damage to property which, under principles of international law or in equity, should be made good by the Governments or authorities responsible;>>
...Has Israel compied with that one yet? Or are there still Palestinians who still hang on to their old house keys in the hopes that they can go home some day?

That which I label crap is -
...the tendancy for people to want to seize on a single simplistic item - "they're tribal" "they're primative" "they're black" "they're Jewish" "they're uneducated" "they're not like us"...
...and use that to justify "an explanation" for why a problem is "all their fault".
..And I apologize if I came on too strong - I just get tired of hearing people use labels and blame to justify stuff.

Yes, there is a cultural heritage of vengence, "an eye for an eye" attitude. Again - it goes back into the Old Testament days when the Jews were Arabs too. It is part of their common heritage. And it was what made Judea such a problem for the Romans.
...And it is manifested on the Israeli side as well. Try to take our land? Fine, we will take your land - that will teach you! We punish you, you punish us, we punish you, you punish us.... And, of course, nobody every feels as though they have been fairly punished.

Now I know that you see a difference there and on a relative basis I would agree with you. But it really is just a different shade of grey. Try contrasting it against an alternative - "turn the other cheek".
...I know - it sounds absolutely insane. They would obliterate us - etc. etc.. But consider that the Romans kept the Jews subdued while they actively persecuted the Christians. And yet, it only took a few hundred years for Christianity to assimilate the Roman Empire while the Jews continued to wander and be persecuted (by the passive Christians no less!).

There is a lesson there and an answer there. But you won't see it if you keep focusing on being not as bad as the other guy.
