I started listening to white blues performers during the early 70s. They so wanted to sound black, and some of them did. Still have a lot of their vinyl. I hope you got a chance to see this seven part series on The Blues on PBS in September? I didn't, but a good friend taped it for me and is bringing it over tomorrow.
