I find it really ironic that a militant Atheist like me is coming to the defense of these people. But it is such an obvious political "Gotcha" I feel compelled to.

I understand where you're coming from. The gotcha ain't cool. As a counterpart to the gotcha, though, we have the double standard. The same people are fussing about what Madeline Albright said, for example, but defending the general. How can that be? Well, we know how that can be. It's partisanship. Shame on them.

The Post is afraid we might offend the Muslim world.

"Offending" is one thing. Triggering a larger war is another. We give credence to the Wahhabi notion that this is a religious war at great risk. Personally, I think WWIII would be a Bad Thing. If we have to have a religous war, it should be the nice, civil religionists and the seculars against the crazy religionists, not Christianity vs. Islam.

IMO this flap isn't about religion and it isn't about partisanship. If it were just about either, or both, I wouldn't have said a thing. IMO, it's about patriotism.
