It was really the only place that they could go, if they wanted to live their dream of freedom, self determination and democracy. Prior to Jewish families settling in the Palestine area, nobody else wanted the barren, useless territory. Zionism, means to me therefore, Jewish families living in freedom and peace in their own country. This is a dream that was similar to those that come to America on the Mayflower.
