His words, "Europeans killed six million Jews", are not to imply a similar solution is needed today. Read it in context, and don't assume evil intentions. He is saying, Jews today have an influence in the world, far out of proportion to their numbers. Which is true.
If you can get past your reflexive defensiveness, and read what he is actually proposing, it is in Israel's interest. He wants a compromise peace, and an end to terrorism and violence. He wants all Muslim nations to re-direct their efforts, towards peaceful economic development.
He is saying it is futile, to whine about all the evil things Christians and Jews have done to Muslims. Instead, Muslims need to find solutions through internal reform and development. Only then, will Muslim nations be able to deal as equals with the Jewish and Christian nations.
Further, he sees that there are many Jews, and Christians, who do not approve of the imperialist policies of their governments. Equally, there are many Muslims (some of whom run Muslim nations), who act against the interests of their own people, and function as proxies for those foreign imperialists. So, it is not "Muslim Us vs. Christian/Jewish Them", but, rather, "Our ideology vs. Their Ideology". All you have to do, to stop being a hated enemy, is quit being a colonialist.
Israel has to make the kind of compromise peace he is proposing, to survive. |
