Absolutely, but why should gender have any bearing on a legal contract protecting property?

For one thing, when it started out, the Female was part of the property being secured. The whole concept includes dowry, children, etc.

A strictly libertarian argument, such as you are proposing, is easy to make, and I used to make it. Old age has made me more conservative. Don't blithely rip up fundamental laws.

I suspect that what you and others here are proposing may happen eventually, but I think it is at least 50 years off Nationally. The worst way to get it done is by judicial Fiat.
