I mentioned the religion topic as a tongue-in-cheek way of bringing the article over since it was sort of out of the blue. (Kinda like mentioning éclairs on the French thread even though you really wanted to talk about diets)

Although- now that I think about it- I do think it also might serve as a minor example of possible destructiveness from fanaticism. Neo had said earlier "All that atheism needs to become destructive is to become fanatical about a vision of the future". It seems to me that this is true of any belief taken to extremes. The problem lies not in the belief but in man's nature and what he does in the name of that belief. Those loaded phrases such as "My God is bigger than your God", and "our leader is chosen by God even over the will of the people" are very, very alarming. (imo)particularly if they are going to be ignored by the administration even though they are not in line with the expressed policy.

With rights comes responsibility. Common sense. Restraint. An understanding that we are part of a larger picture. We seem to be ignoring these more and more while we scream "Freedom of speech for me me me" more and more loudly.
