There used to be quite a few True Conservatives in government... I believe they were mostly side-lined by the 'Voodoo Economics' crowd, the interventionists, and the Big Government Authoritarians and deficit spenders.

They often throw sops to the 'social conservative' crowd just so they can claim they are conservatives --- when their every other action proclaims that they are actually FDR-style big government proponents.
