If we are destined to see a more determinately militaristic mindset taking hold, it will have to occur over an extended period of time.

Not sure if I would like to phrase it quite like that. Rather, I would like to see a more determined mindset which recognizes the threat of Islamic Militancy, and understands that in exercizing preventative measures we lessen the likelihood of that ideal completely dominating the Middle East.

What we've done, by attacking Afghanistan and Iraq, is accelerate the strategy of the Jihadists to subvert the countries of the region. Thus, we've forced them out of the shadows and made them publicly declare their intent, rather than permitting to conduct their strategy in an incremental manner over time.

A single event like WTC would not be enough.

It should have been. But no one wishes to recognize that the WTC attack intended to kill upwards of 50,000 Americans.. Had such a result occurred, I believe this nation would have fully mobilized for war and we'd be sitting in Saudi Arabia right now, and no price would be too high for us to pay in order to eradicate the threat of Islamic militancy.

In 1941 it merely required the sinking of 8 battleships and the loss of 2,000 lives to set this nation into full mobilization. This is what I was trying to convey to Steven Rogers previously.
