OK. I stand corrected. I won't accept correction about the US being a BIG country with 280 million people, though.

And being a tourist here or even living here hardly makes you an expert. I was over in the UK and Ireland for a month recently. I'll stand by my impression that the people in both countries were quite friendly and helpful. I will hardly claim expertise on their political issues, though.

In a PM to a NYer who was commenting on the CA recall, I stated that I would hardly presume to know NY state political issues well enough to be entitled to an informed opinion on them; how could they presume to know CA issues that well? When I look at the paper each morning, it is not full of details about NY. The evening news here carries info about CA, not NY. And this is between states in the same country; the gulf between nations is wider.
