> no, have you?

Actually, yes, I have.

> nor do I think we are partially responsible for what goes on there because the US has given the Saudi some support

When you say "we", are you referring to the American people or the American government? Certainly everyone is responsible for the foreseeable consequences of its actions. The most obvious of such consequences is that helping a corrupt regime survive will prolong the oppressive actions of such regime.

As to the people, if you present the case that the US government is not the true representative of the American people, then you can remove most of the burden from the people. On the other hand if you believe the government is truly elected by the people and is doing what it is doing for the people, and has the moral authority of the people in its actions, then you cannot evade responsibility.

> Saudi Arabia and the US are in bed together for various reasons, but I don't think either country likes or respects the other

True. And when you look at those reasons closely, they all boil down to selling your soul for the benefit of the few. This is true for both sides.

> who do you think she was defending them from?

the oppressive government.

> men/government in her country

Now this is the most sexist perspective I have ever seen in anyone! Are you saying that the government in Iran is the executive of the wants and beliefs of most Iranian men? If that is the case, then why have there been thousands of Iranian men tortured and executed for opposing their dream government? Or are you saying that the government's actions would have been fully woman friendly if the only change in the country was that the government was mostly made of women instead of men?

The problem you are having is lack of appropriate perspective. You are looking at complex social issues and projecting your own background and biases into them. This is why I am against "helping" other countries with their own internal social issues; even with the best of intentions, it rarely works.
