<<take a four day course and learn how to feed elderly.. You are then approved to work in nursing homes as assistant... So you have an elderly parent and someone comes in with four days training to care for them?>>

My father died in December '83 and my mother had a stroke 8 days later. On Christmas Eve I was told my mother had to leave the hospital in two days. Local nursing homes had a 6 month wait. I got wind of a nursing home in the area where my mother grew up 30 miles away and got her in there.

It wasn't fancy and most of the help were high school girls from the area. Farm girls, no training. They did have a doctor on call and a couple of trained nurses on hand for the serious stuff, but those farm girls were amazing. No attitude of we are forced to do the job but a real caring attitude.
