The Super Delegates can ignore the voters, you're right. They are organized in terms of wanting to pick someone who can best BEAT BUSH. The Super Delegate rule was instituted to keep a renegade from running away with the convention, be it Jesse Jackson, George Wallace or this year Howard Dean.
