The Iraq war was supposed to be self-financing, since we were supposed to capture the oil-production infrastructure intact, and quickly ramp up production.

Inaccurate Jacob. Bush NEVER proposed to pay for the war with Iraqi oil proceeds. NEVER!!

I challenge you to show me where this was administration policy.

The Israelis, too, have a consistent history of stealing anything they can get their hands on. They stole Egyptian oil, when they held the Sinai.

Hey.. the British and French stole Ottoman territory, now didn't they? Remember, the Ottomans used to rule what is now all of Egypt and Israel (and the rest of the Arab world)..

All of those countries have been stolen from the Turks.

They, too, tried to grab all the booty they could (plundering Jewish ghettoes and Christian Byzantines, on their way to the Holy Land),

Yep.. In fact, the Crusaders were responsible for more dislocation of the native Jewish population than were the Moslem invaders. I believe the statistics estimate that 90% of the Jewish population was either killed or dispossessed as a result of the Crusader occupation.

But again, I don't see any comparison to what we're currently seeing proposed as the US strategy. If anything, we're spending our national treasure attempting to create a foothold of moderation and democracy in the Arab world, hoping that it will spread to other nations in the region.
