Mike,
Thanks for your responses. Very informative as are all your posts.
Perhaps I should have replaced the word normal with "classic". I do not know what is "normal".
Reading from the Mike Thomas report, he reports values of up to $7000 per ton on the Oro Grande in the form of reduced iron complexes. These would be magnetic, would they not? Very good question you raise. I will discuss this with Dick Jensen. Thank you for the suggestion.
In private conversation with him, he has indicated that he believes there are richer values at depth on the Oro Grande. Since it has not been drilled, it is just speculation at this point. He did indicate an intention to drill the property when funds become available.
Re gold recovery by magnetism, I have done it with black sand, but the gold values contained were real low. There is a beach just across the bay from San Francisco I used to go to where you could see streaks of black sand. There was some good but very fine color associated with it. I made myself a small surf collector and anchored it well and let the tide wash over it a few times and it was loaded with black sand and fine gold. Collected the gold with mercury and sold it. (not at the beach). Another time, living on a creek in oregon, I used a similar device with some success. Not that I have done much in terms of recovery. It is fascinating to see some color, is it not?
PGM's are foreign to my personal experience. I do, however, suspect that the little buggers are more widely distributed than we expect. You have given me insight as to how they can be so elusive. One question nags me, however. That question is the contamination of gold shipments from the Oro Grande to the San Francisco Mint with platinum. If, using their ancient methods, platinum contamination was a "problem", could it be too dificult to have the same "problem" today?
