Here's one big reason the GOP likes big defense contracts:

Soft Money for Defense in 2002

Totals reflect contributions made by individuals associated with that company as well as official company contributions based on data released by the FEC on Monday, June 09, 2003:

Total: $4,515,755
To Democrats: $1,435,800 (32%)
To Republicans: $3,080,305 (68%)

Industry Total to Dems to Repubs
Defense Aerospace $2,665,146 30% 70%
Defense Electronics $1,031,675 37% 63%
Misc Defense $818,934 30% 70%

* Troops and vets don't give nearly as much. So the GOP rewards the big contractors and screws the little guy, as usual. Wounded vets had to leave it to Nancy Pelosi of al people to stand up for their lost health benefits.
