I think you are right about J6P buying the boob tube psychobabble and holding the bag. But, there are always a couple of important ideas that grow into big growth ops. Also, some sector timing via a decent understanding of cyclical economics can give an advantage in the game (such as buying gold at the bottom). Or, for the more learned, buying some bio's when no one else wants them. This is high risk so a lot of research is necessary (and you have to put a couple of bets on the table simultaneously). People need to learn it's not an all or nothing game. Go easy. Sometimes I look back and say, "why didn't I buy more of that..." But, than I smile and remember it's not my strategy to gorge. <ggg> So maybe there are people doing better but I'm doing OK. And then, every once in a while, you hit one out of the park.
