Yes, I agree with you that there is an imposed stability right now. The question is "What now?". From where I sit, it seems Americans' welcome in Iraq is eroding at a much faster rate than was expected, and it doesn't look like Iraqis will let Americans impose stability (or anything else, for that matter) on them for the couple of years it would take for democracy and stability to take root.

I am not that optimistic. Even if they become a model democracy in no time, the role of "a model for the region" is not that realistic. The Middle East is not a place where countries where the populace looks at their neighbours and copy what they envy. Turkey has been a democracy for eighty years. Fat lot of good that did to the region...
