Dukakis was an excellent speaker and had a similar style as Dean, the tough feisty little liberal New Englander governor. Tsongas otherwise most ressembles Dean, more of an outsider, though Dean is an improved version (without cancer too).

Anyway, New Hampshire voters usually do go with the rebel candidate. Whether that translates much of anywhere else is a major question. It's just the story of the day, that's all. Dean's national numbers don't show any positive movement - not yet. And Clark has only just begun to campaign in New Hampshire and he has a grass roots outsider campaign too. Clark is very attractive. This recent poll shows Clark at only 6%. He could easily get 20-25%. Kerry should get 30-35% (endorsed by every major NH Democrat).

If Dean got 40%, Kerry 30% and Clark 20% that wouldn't make any difference to the national race. Dean needs to blow away Clark and Kerry both. He needs 50% or more. Also, don't count out Lieberman. He's at 4% according to this poll. He could easily get 10-15%. He's a New Englander too, and the sole conservative in the mix. Even John Edwards and Gephardt have a chance to get 10% and Kucinich could get 5%.

I'll betcha these polls go all over the place, very fluid, before election time. This last poll was highly unrealistic.
