Please note the word "often" in my statement. I think we can all agree there is big difference between Lend-Lease and waging a "preemptive" war. This was NOT one of those cases in which it was ok to abuse the process.

> Bush didn't do a good job of preparing the country for a marathon

Sorry Nadine, but this was not my point. I am not complaining that Bush did not prepare the country for what is ahead. I am complaining that Bush did not open a debate as to what we are in the run for and running which path will get us there best.

Perhaps you remember the PNAC statement on the need for a disaster in America so they can attack Iraq. Or may be you remember the reports of how they wanted to attack Iraq even before Afghanistan. Exactly how much time and effort was put into analyzing the relationship between Iraq and Sept-11?

One can very well "believe" what he is saying and still be guilty of deception, if one never took the time to fully develop his opinions and present the premises those opinions were based on. If I were to see only what I want to see and then find reasons for those and only press them on to you, then I am still guilty of deception because I did not respect your right to make up your mind nor did I fully do my own homework.

> WMDs were the easiest 'sell' but would NEVER have been chosen if Bush had had doubts about their being found

Exactly how much effort would it have taken Bush to place a team in charge of disqualifying what evidence is put in front him. He did not see the contrary evidence because he did not want to.
