I don't know whether it all started with Gingrich or not.

The Author went into a real "rant" on the Republicans toward the end of the article. I almost didn't post it because of this. I followed Gingrich closely in 94 when the Repubs took power. I was really impressed with the guy. I saw his series of History lectures that eventually got him in trouble because of the way he was paid for them.

I stomp down on prolonged "Clintonista" posting here because it is so charged with emotion and leads nowhere. We don't get quite that same emotional level about Bush from the left. The Author made a good comparison of the two viewpoints.

The liberal answer is that George Bush is a craven, lazy, hypocritical nitwit. The conservative answer is that liberals are being driven crazy by the fact that Bush is so popular with Americans, and thus by the realization that anyone to the left of center is utterly marginal
