What's the reaction in HK ? MADAME CHIANG DIES: (Oct 25) Soong May-Ling, widow of Generalissimo Chiang Kai-shek, died in New York at age 105. Known as Madame Chiang, she was famous for using her beauty and fluent English to lobby the United States to fight the Japanese in World War Two. The general ruled China briefly before losing a civil war to China's communists in 1949, and fleeing to Taiwan. The couple were once major players in the Nationalist government that ruled Taiwan, but their influence faded as Taiwan evolved into a democracy. She moved to the US after her husband's death in 1975.
