| The "best" people are never the only ones to be advanced- in any system. If they were, Mr. Bush j,r would be something other (and much less) than what he is. Money has determined, for a very long time, who gets the best goodies. To worry about affirmative action- for people who can simply be visibly identified- is, imo, stupid. There are people all around us who do not deserve, by merit, the places they occupy. To worry about one group- those people of color- when there are so many candidates, is racism. You are choosing to worry about the people whom you can "see"- and not about all those other hidden beneficiaries of the affirmative power of nepotism, and wealth, and good looks, and a friendly manner, or good bullshitting skills- to name only a few. You, who frequently talk about prioritizing risks in rational ways, should see that this is on point. It is irrational to worry about affirmative action, when one does not worry about all those other hidden "affirmative actions" that affect far more people, in more hidden ways, and because it is hidden, probably advances even less qualified candidates.
