appro and gregor,

Not to be overly critical of VT but...the late season slumps over the past 2 seasons seem to be directly correlated to VT's early season schedule. VT seems to have adopted a strategy that involves the scheduling of weak early season opponents. They seem to get off to a great won/loss start and then reality sets in when the schedule gets tougher.

The past two years the strategy has worked as far as early season ratings are concerned. ESPN and company have bought into the belief that beating a group of essentially creampuffs warrants a high ranking. Once VT starts to play reasonably competitive teams (post Vick) the helium comes out of the balloon.

You realize that over the past couple of years...2001-2002-2003, that VT is 9-8 in the Big East Conference?

I've always liked Beamer and think that he's done a great job at VT (last weeks head slap aside), but VT along with Kansas State have been two of the most consistently overrated football programs in recent years...IMO.
