Joan Graffius answer (off subject)
This was the cleanest install I have ever done on any machine, any OS, and had only one conflict - Norton Disk Doctor (the version I have anyway) generated a message that it wouldn't work with OS 8, but didn't crash. Not bad considering have over 300 applications, two printers on an appletalk network (laser and inkjet), a scanner, a color connectix quick cam, two external drives, a cartidge drive backup, and three other macs on ethernet. Didn't try ClarisDraw and a few other older and smaller programs (which I don't use anyway) but my technical analysis package (ProTA) worked great. The new version of Mortal Pongbat my son and I played was slow, but found out later that was the fault of the new version, not the OS - there are probably a few other games that way - will find out later. Old version of the game worked fine. MS Word and Excel worked fine, as did Clarisworks and MacInTax. Do a clean install and write down all the quad dot and SMTP/POP/NNTP addresses/names/numbers as the embedded Netsape installation sets it up for you assuming you have all that down. I didn't, but corrected it manually later. They sold 1.2 million copies of this OS the first week at $100 each, and it is elegant, fast, robust and feature/content rich. The first thing I did was replace the desktop background with a scanned photo I took from the Deck of the house I stayed in two weeks ago at Nags Head, NC and am using it at the photobackground now - edge to edge of the screen. Am installing it on the other machines later this week, including the 8600 my son should get tomorrow providing the Fed Ex troops are getting caught up on deliveries from the UPS overload. you are going to love it.
