Fires that are jumping 8 lanes of highway aint going to be stopped by any buffer zone a homeowner can dig. Uh, duh!!! That's exactly why you don't plop your damn 2 million dollar house in that area, or you clean up the damn canyon area around your housing development! Mow the freaking 8 feet high weeds!!!! If you're going to spend several hundred million developing,, do it right!!! Furthermore, the buffer zones that we're talking about around these houses are about the width of an 8 lane freeway in many cases. That does prevent many houses from going up in smoke, provided your house is up to code, uses a composite roof(yes, there are still homes in LA that have wood shingle roofs).
