Pastor promoted to president of Net2Phone cable voice unit
Net2Phone Inc. has promoted Michael Pastor to president of the company's cable telephony division. Previously, Pastor was the unit's vice president and general manager.
In June, Net2Phone divided its business segments into two wholly-owned subsidiaries: Net2Phone Cable Telephony (NCT) and Net2Phone Global Services (NGS).
The NCT division supplies pre-integrated and "hosted" VoIP services to cable operators. Corporate cousin Liberty Cablevision of Puerto Rico plans to soon market IP telephony services commercially following a 12-month market trial with Net2Phone.

IP TELEPHONY: On Your Marks, Get Set...
The cable industry is poised to launch a new era with voice-over-IP phone services. The technology, long considered not-quite ready for primetime, is rapidly maturing and providing ample feedback on its readiness. Our panelists will provide a status report on tests, trials and deployments of next-generation telephone services. What are the early returns on trials? What are operators and vendors learning about the technology and how is it impacting strategic planning? What are the best models to reach customers? How is the battle over backup powering (network vs. consumer premises vs. none) going to shake out?
