No, Elmer, I'm serious. He could have one of 2 answers. He could say that the therapist knows more than he does, and he would write orders to the effect of 'ventilator per RT'", or he could say "I am the doc; here are your settings". Now, for the most part, we do know more than the average doc. Pulmonologists and Intensiveists (ICU specialists, no matter how the hell the word is spelled) should quite properly take the latter approach. The Doc was a GP, so he should take the former approach, unless he had a specialist available to him. (Most urban settings now have them, but they can be rare in rural settings, and, in the old days when I started, they were generally unavailable.) I'd learn a whole lot about his character by his response; he could even woo me from da General (or the General could lose me, but I haven't seen much to make me think that is a possibility). I'm probably closest to Dennis da K, but I've gotta be a little pragmatic; I don't want to waste this vote.
