In fact, I have a deep love for American ideals, liberties and freedoms and hate to see them perverted and damaged. Everyone in the US should have the same rights and freedoms regardless of religion or any other factor. We should set a better example than the non-democratic states around the world, whatever their religious orientation.

There are several Muslim states with Christian minorities dating back many centuries. You should educate yourself about the diversity of the Islamic world. It ranges from horrible to not bad by modern standards.

So I am not anti-American or anti-any religion. I happen to think Bush is the worst president we have had since Nixon but I have voted for other Republicans in the past. The pollsters would classify me as one of those independent swing voters that determines most elections.

I have nothing against using force against dictators in principle. But we don't use force against all dictators, obviously. I have a serious problem with wasting lives and resources on a fool's errand when the evidence of an imminent strategic threat was tenuous at best and nonexistent in most cases.

Too much of American politics is cheerleading now - and the cheerleaders can't stand anyone who doesn't cheer along. I happen to love democratic debate and dissent. Complacency and conformity breeds authoritarianism. I have lived in enough less-than-perfect semi-democracies around the world to know the importance of opposing views.

It's the lifeblood of the real America, the bastion of freedom and democracy that endures the periodic bouts of McCarthyite witch hunts.

There are some honest answers. You can believe them or not, it's up to you.
