Longhorn: MMMOOOOOOOOOOOO!

We'll have to see it when we see it.

The filesystem area needs support for new filetypes, media and the like. We need to be able to tag media files like we can tag text files with some kind of html thing. That is an immediate need. Doesn't even look like they are working on it.

Longhorn also will feature WinFS, the next generation of data storage, which provides more security in and enables developers to tap pre-built data structures in applications they are working on.

I think it is entirely possible that the next big operating system comes out of cisco, or some networking consortium. I don't mean for individual productivity apps but for apps that dominate in a few years, many of which are networking.
