If the market timing is being done by the fund manager at the expense of the fund shareholders' expense, you betcha I believe that it's immoral. If it isn't illegal, it should be.

I agree completely. AFAIK it isn't explicitly illegal (yet), but it should be. It is against the policy of most MF companies for managers to trade in the funds they manage.

Contrast this with the hedge fund industry where most managers are REQUIRED to purchase a certain minimum percentage of their fund.
