my weirdest heatsink story (actually heatsinks almost never fail; what fails is the fan which is attached to the heatsink. it is hard to imagine a piece of aluminum failing) is related to my video card. i have an fx5200 attached to a 2000fp from dell with dvi connector. last month the monitor started going into low power mode by itself after a period of use. and the period of use after power up started getting lower and lower. it turns out the fan on the video card died and it was turning of the dvi drivers. i attached a new fan and couldn't be happier since.

(i just had to share this)
