Japan's Sept. Production Gains 3%, Beating Forecasts

Oct. 29 (Bloomberg) -- Japanese factory production rose twice as fast as economists expected in September on growing overseas orders for computer chips and mobile phones, helping the world's second-largest economy maintain a recovery from recession.

Production gained a seasonally adjusted 3 percent from August, the fastest since May 2002, and may gain 2.8 percent this month and 2.5 percent in November, the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry said. The median forecast of 36 economists in a Bloomberg news survey was for a 1.5 percent gain last month.
