Quinnipiac Poll Shows Democrats Gaining On Bush

POSTED: 7:58 a.m. EST October 29, 2003

HAMDEN, Conn. -- A new Quinnipiac University poll shows that Democrats seeming to be making their point and gaining points on President George W. Bush.

The national poll shows that Bush's job approval a slipped a bit since last month, going from 53 percent to 51 percent. Among the field of Democratic presidential hopefuls, General Wesley Clark leads the pack, although in any one-to-one matchup, Bush still leads.

In a faceoff with Bush, the president leads Clark 47 percent to 43 percent, and leads Connecticut Senator Joe Lieberman 52 percent to 41 percent.

The poll director says some of the factors in the slip by Bush are the situation in Iraq and the economy.

The polls of 1,262 registered voters was held from Oct. 23 through Oct. 27. It has a sampling margin of error of plus or minus three percentage points.
