While Strauss apparently accepted the tautology that a philosopher must continue to think abstractly in order to remain a philospher, he also apparently accepted that once a philosopher had come to (or become) an opinion that he was now ready for the king part and should use whatever means necessary to carry out the opinion. A little bit Plato a large bit Machiavelli.
