Foolish Premise decides to express his opinions on the same issue. He has proven to be a thoughtful and educated poster (IMHO) whose opinion I value highly--at least with regard to scientific issues. The FDA is doing their job watching out for patient safety. A stent thrombosis is far worse for the patient than restenosis (as the deaths reported will tell you). But Cypher was studied head to head with a bare stent - and didn`t differ w.r.t. thrombosis. It is being used selectively in a higher risk population, and physician`s have been urged to report everything they see. There is usually only a small fraction of these events reported to the FDA, the percentage is much higher now. In my mind it is highly unlikely there will end up being a thrombosis issue with Cypher - and if there is, I`m glad we have some chance of being a provider of heparin coatings. I am more concerned with the hypersensitivity issue, and will have to explore that further. The timing of all this, as was pointed out earlier, is actually GOOD. Taxus is about to go through their FDA panel. The experts will have just the right mindset I would have chosen for them. Although I don`t normally post about my own transactions - I bought in more today.
