Bob, you're right, I was calling you names and that wasn't necessary. Other than that, I think you're wrong on just about every point you tried to make. You overlook the fact that it takes guts to do the right thing when the easy road is to take a shortcut. In the long run, however, those shortcuts go right off the edges of cliffs.

Even if your assumptions that this cowboy with a pistol saved someone's life by beating and scaring the shit out of an unarmed prisoner, and that somehow to stop that practice by punishing it would harm morale, what will ultimately happen in future conflicts to our prisoners and those of our allies? What kind of a nation of "principles" will we be seen as in our role of leaders of the free world? Where does it stop? Do we adopt the tactics of the Palestinians and the radical Israelis as well as those of the terrorists and begin targeting the innocent with the guilty? What end does your path of expediency lead to?

The path to a better future is never built by placing more of the flawed stones that marked the path that led to failure.
