-------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Monday August 11 8:02 AM EDT Company Press Release C-Cube's Single-Chip MPEG Encoder Selected by LA Vision for its Newest Video Computing Product MILPITAS, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Aug. 11, 1997--C-Cube Microsystems Inc. (NASDAQ:CUBE), the market leader in digital video, today announced that LA Vision has adopted C-Cube's VideoRISC single-chip encoder for its Dazzle(TM) personal video computing product.
Dazzle is an easy-to-use, affordable adapter that snaps onto a computer's external parallel port in seconds. It allows users to easily capture and record high-quality video or still images and place these pictures and movies into Windows 95-compatible business and entertainment applications -- without the installation of an add-in card.
Leveraging C-Cube technology, Dazzle can encode video and audio into the MPEG file format in real-time. Video and audio recorded using Dazzle can be played back with any PC equipped with Microsoft's DirectShow or Apple's Quicktime 2.0. LA Vision has developed a customized software control panel, creating a simplified user interface with only five buttons. The Dazzle package will also include a range of software applications ranging from image editing to presentation software. Dazzle is expected to be available in stores later this quarter.
``C-Cube's encoder, combined with our unique hardware and software design, allows LA Vision to bring the benefits of MPEG to the mainstream PC user for the first time,'' said Sajid Sohail, vice president of research and development for LA Vision. ``Before Dazzle, you could capture stills or video, but could only do a few things with them. Now, we give users high-quality still images and video they can bring to life in the applications they use every day.''
``We are delighted that LA Vision has chosen C-Cube's encoder for its Dazzle MPEG Video Peripheral,'' said Alex Daly, vice president of marketing for C-Cube Microsystems. ``PC users have been waiting for a cost-effective, easy-to-use video peripheral that supports industry-standard file formats, and LA Vision's Dazzle really hits the mark.''
