Hey I’m just a novice in this game. However in my humble opinion this is what I see.

The party is over, esp. in the computer & Internet related stocks. The hardware, chip technology and software are maxed out. The average PC’s power is so far beyond consumer demands and skills; it’s a bit like driving a Viper two blocks to the convenience store for a plastic cup of bad coffee.

Regarding the Internet, for most it is still a toy, a medium of entertainment … however it is forging a radical change in the ability to communicate and access meaningful information, which was it’s original mandate. Personally most of the time image loading is turned off in my browser, and I find it annoying to wait for some JAVA app to download and present me with an exploding button or a waving hand. This WEB site is a fine example of what value the Internet can provide. It is well designed, fast, easy to navigate and useful. The cable connectivity hype of unlimited speed and interactivity is certainly attracting attention, by the way what happened to Phillips CDI venture? It is too soon to tell who or what will be major players in the Internet/Intranet arena, as the Titans battle it out. Too many companies are single product oriented.

Most of the promises of biotech have not come to fruition, personally I don’t want an eight foot tall son or a three hundred pound tomato.
This is not to say that there is a lot of money to be made from these markets by the savvy investor, with the proliferation of individual investors looking for quick profits it is just a matter of anticipating the herd and its effects and not get trampled when it panics. The best predictor I have seen for Investing in the more volatile offerings is the I Ching, but that is another story.

My own personal decision is to look for companies with techniques for controlling the spread of pathogens in the food processing and service industries. Drug companies are scrambling to develop new antibiotics, however this is not the cure, it is the source of the problem.
