Why should we fall into the same trap that our ancestors fell into?

We often do because we're like them. We're actually not very good at thinking, even the best of us. Our species hasn't been doing it for very long.

Real knowledge, as opposed to revealed, requires formalism: systematic description, logic and mathematics, and a reasonable protocol for recognizing and vetting theories.

None of these is easy to acquire or apply and most people don't have the motivation or means to acquire or apply them.

And then there's that extra little handicap most of us have: our reason is the servant of our emotions. To (mis)use a political metaphor, it's very difficult for reason to gain "equality".
