How do you explain 7% annual GDP growth last quarter? In Texas the Republican dominated legislature changed banking laws to allow home equity to be spent on any purchase ( and homes to be forclosed upon for those debts ). That caused an uptick in local borrowing as the airwaves, especially of those easily persuaded listeners of talk radio, were flooded with ads touting all the things they could buy by borrowing against their house and how happy and virile they would feel.
