If it weren't for the liberal gun laws in the States, our streets would be even safer (incidently our beloved city of toronto gets about 1 murder a week in a population of over 4 million).

Our so called liberal gun laws are many thousands long at the Federal, State and Local level. Felons, mentally ill, drug addicts, domestic assaulters are all forbidden from purchasing handguns and there is an instant background check provided by dealers and at gun shows and no intrastate mail order allowed and one handgun a month to prevent straw purchases.

If handguns are being smuggled in, it isn't because there aren't any laws to that make illicit arms smuggling for criminal purposes and intent illegal. Smuggling handguns into Canada breaks both US and Canadian laws. After all how many stories do you read about about police catching somebody smuggling handguns into Canada and police saying, "We had to release them because we couldn't find any broken laws to charge them with." Your theory is ridiculous. There are gun problems because there is always an element that does not follow any laws.
