Iran and Syria were allied during the Iran/Iraq war. So Syria would not necessarily be without allies. Not to mention Hezbullah in Lebanon that drove Israel out of that country after many years of bloodshed. Hezbullah probably is the Arab military force most feared by Israel on a man to man basis.

I am not saying that Syria would be match for Israel. But I do think they have the capability to make the Likudniks pay a high price if they choose to attack.
