13:01 ET CMGI -- Market Chatter 1.88 +0.21: Stock rallies 14% on extremely heavy volume of 24 mln shares (7x avg). Rumored buyout by HP Strength appears to be related to a report by a wire service that Hewlett-Packard Company (HPQ) reported a 6.1% stake in CMGI. This report apparently has been massaged into a rumor that HPQ is looking to make a bid for CMGI . As far as we can tell, the stake in CMGI being sited is, at least in part, tied to a 5.4 mln share payment of common stock by CMGI to Compaq in 2001 as payment for interest on a loan ("note") and a later issuance of 4.45 mln shares in exchange for notes held by Compaq/Hewlett. The stake is now being reported under HPQ due to its acquisition of Compaq.
