Given that the vast majority of mutual funds don't perform as well as the S&P, I doubt the success rate would be nearly that high.


I don't know about the vast majority and performance relative to the S&P, but the aspect of active management plus management fees may have had something to do with observed median below an expected average?

A fair average is an average. 50% end up above and 50% end up below. Except when it comes to people. In which case 80% will tell you they are above average. Most threads for example are populated by above average investors :o)
