The right is obsessed with gays because they think of themselves as morally superior, and they try to infer that all liberals are gay or less than manly. As we know, sometimes the opposite is true. The White House are a bunch of draft-dodgers and some of the most arch right-wing types like J. Edgar Hoover are closet queens. Over my life-time I've noticed that those who hate gays the most are usually closet cases themselves, like in the movie "American Beauty". It might also be known that some of the toughest captains of industry and even Pentagon types are gay. In the so-called "liberal" world, sure there are openly gay people and they don't bother me. But in the right-wing world it's all closeted except for the Log Cabin Republicans. I also suspect some of these tough Republican women who are good-looking but have no husbands or boyfiends, like Condi Rice and Anne Coulter. Why at their age do they have no opposite sex relationships that anyone knows about? Basically, since gay marriage is kind of absurd, the who issue shouldn't even be partisan, but the religious right (many who are terribly repressed) make it an issue, then jerks like Rick Santorum (who looks gay) picks up on it and bashes.
