Actually I was told Israel was offered a state in the US in the 50s, and I'm not sure if that is true or not.

Lizze, how can you give credence to such an absurd idea? The US wasn't even Israel's ally in the 50s - we took Nasser's side in 1956 after Britain, France and Israel attacked Egypt for seizing the Suez canal and blockading the Straits of Tiran.

Don't you know that the US State Department has hated Israel from day one? Truman had to overrule Marshall, a man he revered, even to recognize Israel in the first place.
