10/31/2003 My Model Turned Bearish - First Time in 2003. I am not saying the market is absolutely topped here - but my model is giving me the signal that it is very likely topped, or in the topping process. It is prudent to hedge the portfolio now. I am 65% long, 35% cash and 65% short. I hope to minimize the portfolio drawdown if the market indeed go down. If there is another frenzy rally (which is possible although unlikely), I hope my long positions can go up faster or at least equal to the short positions. Correction - My portfolio is up 278% from July 2001 to Oct31 2003, higher than the subject title 260% due to one day difference.
