SI's Don't Start the War thread header was, and the Stop the War thread header is, replete with international and domestic news reporting showing how the Bush and Blair administrations bullied the public, using every trick it could in order to manipulate the public thinking, especially the elective bodies of both nations, into supporting the war.
And the mainstream reporting, although harder-hitting than then, is today faulty. Why? Because, pretty much, the emphasis is aimed at faulty intelligence. Indeed, the emphasis should instead be on why intelligence got manufactured and why.
It's my view that impeachment proceedings in the U.S., coupled with a rational and comprehensive, all-inclusive, diplomatic foreign policy approach together with an admission that the Bush-Blair militaristic approach was wrong, would very much help to improve, though not solve, current conditions in the MidEast. To not do this would mean a continuation of boiling the water.
Indeed, a president alone should not be able to lead our nation into war; a president alone should not be able to trick our congress into giving it blank and vague approval, at best, based on both faulty and manufactured intelligence, of support in order to do so. Indeed, the dying we see today is the consequence of this action. And more and more Americans are today beginning to realize that the actions of the Bush Administration are needlessly killing our sons and daughters. This is a far more impeachworthy act than anything Clinton ever did. Let the proceedings begin! |
