That's good then .... actually after posting that i remembered that years ago there was established contact between the various forest services, they keep each other current on their situations, men and equipment move quite freely back and forth, the politicians get involved only as formality .... that probably applies only to adjacent jurisdictions, BC would have arrangements with Washington and Idaho who would cooperate with Oregon who would cooperate with California .... this time of year, though, the only part of the coast with fire risk is southern California, they get those Santa Ana winds out of the desert well after our season ends
We know people who know some on the rapattack teams, they have lots of stories, strange things that happen .... at one point this year, a bunch of them were in Washington state at a big hot spot, they got talking to local crews and found one reason the locals were short handed was because half were sent to relieve other teams who were short handed because they were on a fire from right beside where this rapattack team had just come from ... or something like this, i've forgotten details, but it sure gets crazy out there
Armistice day coming up, this was passed to me by someone with a mutual connection - geocities.com ... there were several sixty-year anniversaries of events over the last weeks, and one tomorrow ... that is written by a brit in the North Irish Horse, but they served with british columbian infantry at the time, and it's a detailed well-told story .... then googling around there was this piece by the cbc - tv.cbc.ca |
